Tailward Privacy Policy
The short version
Tailward keeps your pets' records on your phone. We don't run accounts, servers or analytics, and GridMark Labs never receives, sells or shares the information you put into the app. Your information leaves your phone only when you share or export it yourself, or through Android's own device backup to your Google account if you have that turned on.
What you store in Tailward
You can record pet details and health information: vaccinations, medications and doses, appointments, weight, notes, photos and documents such as vet certificates. This information is stored only in the app's private storage on your device. GridMark Labs never receives it.
Permissions and what they're for
- Notifications, exact alarms and start-up: to deliver reminders for vaccinations, medications and appointments on time, including after your phone restarts.
- Camera: only when you choose to take a photo of your pet or a document.
- Photos and files: only the items you pick with Android's photo or file picker. Tailward does not browse your photo library or files.
Backups
Backups are files you create yourself and save to a place you choose, such as your Downloads folder or a cloud drive. A backup contains your Tailward records, photos and documents, so keep it as you would any private document. Tailward itself does not upload backups anywhere.
Android device backup
If Android's backup is turned on for your phone, Android may include Tailward's data in the device backup it stores in your Google account, so your records can come back when you set up a new phone. This is controlled by you in Android's settings and handled by Google under its own privacy policy; GridMark Labs has no access to it.
Sharing and opening files
When you choose to share a PDF report, an emergency summary or a document, or open a document in another app, Tailward passes it to the app you pick through Android's share sheet or file viewer. What happens next is governed by that app.
Internet use
Tailward does not send your records to GridMark Labs or to any server we operate. The app includes Google Play's billing library, which can connect to Google Play; this version of Tailward does not sell anything. If purchases are offered in future, Google processes the payment under its own privacy policy, and this policy will be updated before that happens.
Google Play
Installing and updating Tailward through Google Play is handled by Google under the Google Privacy Policy. Google may provide us with aggregated, non-identifying statistics such as install counts and crash reports through Google Play Console.
Children
Tailward is designed for people aged 16 and over who care for pets, and is not directed at children. Tailward has no ads and does not collect personal information from anyone, including younger users.
Deleting your data
Your data stays under your control. Delete individual records in the app, or uninstall Tailward to remove everything stored in the app. Backup files you saved elsewhere, and Android device backups in your Google account, are not affected; manage or delete them separately.
Your rights
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you can ask about personal information an agency holds about you. Because Tailward stores your information only on your device, GridMark Labs does not hold any of it. Contact us with any privacy question.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date.
